The body of American journalist Austin Tice was found in a cemetery in northern Syria, sources told Sky News Arabia on Sunday.
According to the FBI, Tice was kidnapped in Damascus, Syria in August of 2012. He was a freelance journalist and photographer who worked with various news outlets, among which were CBS.
In early May, his mother said the US government knew of her son's whereabouts, according to The Washington Post.
Qatari search mission
On Saturday, Reuters reported, citing two sources, that a Qatari mission has begun searches for the remains of US hostages killed by the Islamic State in Syria a decade ago.Islamic State, which controlled swathes of Syria and Iraq at the peak of its power from 2014-2017, beheaded numerous people in captivity, including Western hostages, and released videos of the killings.
