IDF strikes Hezbollah weapons in Beirut, Netanyahu submits affidavit on Shin Bet chief

Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) head Ronen Bar lied, and did not alert Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the dangers of Hamas, nor did he wake him on the morning of October 7, said the prime minister in his sworn affidavit on Sunday. 

The affidavit was submitted to the High Court of Justice per its extension given on Thursday, the original deadline. What happens next is up to the court. 

Bar said in his affidavit that at 11 p.m. on October 6, military officers in the South received updates on activity in the enclave that was out of the ordinary. At 1:33 a.m. on October 7, a Shin Bet unit was sent to the South, fearing a concentrated infiltration attack.

Politicians and organizations representing families affected by the October 7 massacre reacted to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's affidavit to the High Court of Justice in which he denounced Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) Chief Ronen Bar on Sunday.

The October Council, which represents October 7 victims' families, stated that "the exchange of accusations between the political and security leadership that served on October 7 is no substitute for a true investigation."

The October Council also called on the government to "establish a state commission of inquiry that will investigate everything and everyone, before Remembrance Day."

Israel decided not to participate in the oral hearings at the International Court of Justice regarding the advisory opinion on the status of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), due to begin on Monday, Israel's Foreign Ministry confirmed on Sunday.

Israel will instead present their position at a press conference to foreign media, led by Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar on Monday morning.

Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, on Sunday commented on the unfolding 'Qatargate' scandal in Israel, denying allegations that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's advisors were employed by the Qatari government.

The IDF conducted an airstrike and killed a Hezbollah terrorist in the area of Halta in southern Lebanon on Sunday, the military confirmed. 

The terrorist was allegedly attempting to rebuild Hezbollah's presence in the area, the military noted. 

The IDF issued an "urgent and important warning to residents of southern suburbs of Beirut," IDF Arabic spokesperson Col. Avichay Adraee wrote on X/Twitter on Sunday afternoon.

The IDF's 205th Brigade found a Hamas weapons cache in United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) bags near civilian buildings in Rafah, the military confirmed on Sunday.

The IDF intercepted a drone that was entering Israel's airspace "from the east" earlier on Sunday, the military confirmed on Sunday afternoon.

Sirens were not triggered as part of the event, the military added.

Qatar sabotaged the hostage and ceasefire deal to secure better terms for Hamas, Israeli media reported on Sunday, citing senior Israeli officials.

If a final deal is not reached in the coming days, Israel is expected to increase pressure in Gaza, according to Yisrael Hayom.

The media must stop broadcasting Hamas’ propaganda videos, Gaza hostage Omri Miran’s brother Boaz said on Channel 14’s The Patriots on Saturday night.

“There’s the responsibility of the media channels—because even if the family approves it for you [the media], where are you?” he asked, adding that details that were omitted from the propaganda video Hamas published on Wednesday were removed because it was “Hamas controlling things.”

“They’ll [the media] fall right into Hamas’s setup. Whatever Hamas says, they’ll do. After all, Hamas tells them: "Go out and protest," he said.
