Gal Gadot, Pulp Fiction producer to be honored at Jerusalem Film Festival
“Choosing Gal Gadot as the guest of honor for the 42nd edition is natural and self-evident,” said the festival organizers.
Gal Gadot and American film producer Lawrence Bender will be the guests of honor at the opening of the 42nd Jerusalem International Film Festival on July 17 at Sultan’s Pool.
The Israeli film star will receive a special tribute award for her contribution to international cinema over nearly two decades of work. Bender, a producer nominated for three Academy Awards, including Pulp Fiction and Good Will Hunting, will also receive a special award at the opening event.
“Choosing Gal Gadot as the guest of honor for the 42nd edition is natural and self-evident,” said the festival organizers in a statement.
“Gal began her journey here in Israel and became one of the most recognized international stars, while maintaining a strong connection to her Israeli roots. She is not only a global star but also a cultural ambassador for Israel and Israeli cinema. At the Jerusalem Film Festival, where we celebrate the finest of Israeli and global cinema, there is no one more fitting to receive this award.”
Bender has been one of the most influential voices in Hollywood for over three decades, with his films receiving 37 Oscar nominations and nine wins. He rose to fame through his prolific partnership with director Quentin Tarantino, producing Reservoir Dogs (1992), and continuing with Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill.
“In addition to his extensive work in global humanitarian efforts, Bender is a passionate supporter of Israeli film and television. We are thrilled to welcome him to the Jerusalem Film Festival to receive this tribute.”
Bender said that the events of October 7, 2023, when Hamas attacked Israel, spurred him to accept the award and come to Israel.
Bender spurred by October 7 attack
“After October 7, 2023, I saw a community standing alone on the world stage and realized it was time to focus more on the people I belong to. That’s why receiving this tribute at the Jerusalem Film Festival, especially alongside the wonderful actress Gal Gadot, is very meaningful to me,” he said in a statement. For full details on the opening event, film schedule for the 10-day festival, screening times, and ticket reservations, visit the festival’s official website: jff.org.il/he.
