IDF announces soldier killed in northern Gaza

An IDF tank driver in the 79th Battalion, 'Machatz' Brigade, fell during combat in northern Gaza, the IDF announced Thursday.

His family has been notified, and his name has yet to be cleared for publication, the IDF stated. 

Additionally, an officer in the Yahalom Unit and a reservist in the 'Machatz' Brigade were severely injured.

The soldiers were evacuated to a hospital to receive medical treatment, and their families have been notified.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa told two Republican congressmen who visited Syria last week that he is open to normalizing relations with Israel, but under one condition, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

"President al-Sharaa said that he was open to the Abraham Accords, which would put them in good standing with Israel, other Middle Eastern countries, and of course, the United States," Republican Congressman Marlin Stutzman said in an exclusive interview with The Post

The Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court on Thursday reversed the November 2024 ruling of the ICC lower court against Israel's jurisdictional objections to the issuing of arrest warrants against Prime MInister Benjamin Netanyahu and then defense minister Yoav Gallant.

The IDF on Thursday admitted that it had killed a UN official on March 19 after repeated detailed denials to the Jerusalem Post and other media.

Based on the IDF's specific previous denials, the Post has reported the military's narrative that the UN official's death and the wounding of five others were from an unexploded land mine or other ordinance that the UN officials tampered with, but not from IDF activity that day.

Freed hostage Eli Sharabi spoke at the March of the Living that took place at Auschwitz-Birkenau on Holocaust Remeberance Day on Thursday.

Sharabi was held in Hamas captivity after he was kidnapped during the October 7 Hamas attacks in 2023. He was released during the Israel-Hamas ceasefire-hostage deal in January.

Israeli prison accidentally releases prisoner early

A prisoner was accidentally released early from a northern prison this week, Israel Prison Services announced on Thursday.

An initial investigation revealed that due to an error, the prisoner, a resident of the north, was released on Wednesday night, before his scheduled release time.

The prisoner was later located and returned to continue serving the remainder of his sentence.

As a result, the Northern District Commander has instructed a review officer be appointed.

Nukhba terrorist sentenced to 7 years in prison

Muhammad Masri, a senior Hamas operative, was sentenced to 7.5 years in prison after being indicted the week before the October 7 attacks, Walla reported on Thursday.

The indictment detailed Hamas's training plans before the assault on Israel, and after a plea agreement was reached with the Southern District Prosecutor's Office, the court imposed the prison sentence.

The IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) struck terrorists who were located within a command and control facility run by Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), the military announced on Thursday morning.

The military stated that terrorists were using the command and control facility for planning and executing terror operations against Israeli civilians and IDF troops.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to request that Israel's High Court of Justice postpone the submission of his affidavit regarding the dismissal of Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar to Sunday, Israeli media reported on Thursday morning.

Netanyahu was expected to submit the affidavit on Thursday to the High Court of Justice.
