Former Philippine police officers implicated in the murder of Isaac Cohen and Geneva Lopez over a land dispute, highlighting corruption and violence in agricultural land transactions.

Those killed were members of Daulah Islamiyah, a pro-Islamic State militant group that took control of the southern Marawi city in 2017 and held it through five months of ground offensives.

The centuries-old tradition of paying homage to the black wooden statue of Jesus Christ, believed to have healing powers, drew massive numbers of Catholics to take part in the procession.
